Sodium percarbonate (secret OxiClean ingredient) is used by the best deck cleaners to fully pull out all that dirt and grime. Otherwise known as oxygen bleach, Sodium Percarbonate is also used in color safe bleaching laundry products. My husband wears long sleeve white shirts for work and the cuffs always hold the most dirt. Since we use this chemical solid to clean wood decks, I decided to do a little testing to see if I could save money by buying direct instead of the branded products from the grocery store.

First, I washed the shirt in a normal wash – with just laundry detergent. The cuffs were cleaner, but the grime was still apparent. Then, I made a paste of 1 Tablespoon of sodium percarbonate and 1 Cup of hot water. I let the cuffs soak in this mixture for 20 minutes. Finally, I  mixed a 1/2 cup of sodium percarbonate in hot water to dissolve it and added a washer full of cold water along with my normal amount of laundry detergent. After 30 or so minutes, the shirt cuffs were as good as new!

Next time, if I soak the cuffs right away, I could probably just leave them in the hamper till I wash a full load of laundry. Time to buy some sodium percarbonate from my own business to keep in the house!  A good friend of mine uses OxiClean to remove stains from her porcelain kitchen sink, I will have to share this with her as well. Safe and effective cleaning solutions – Yay!

Many Marylanders are unaware of what is growing on their roof, let alone what to do about it. If they even notice the discoloration on the roof, the first thought is, “Maybe I can use a pressure washer to clean that stuff.” Sure, you could  use a pressure washer – if you want to spend all day on a slippery roof, blasting the granules off your roof.  My promise to you: There is a safe and effective way to clean that roof without any danger to you, your roof or your family.

Ease Your Stress – Call a Pro

I’m a DIY kinda gal, but sometimes, it just isn’t worth all the time and effort. I spent my Sunday cleaning the mattresses in the house. Now if the weather was nice, I think I would have spent that day outside instead and called a professional to do some of my heavy Spring Cleaning. Trying to save money balanced with the value of my time can be tricky and sometimes I fail at solving that equation.  I got married a few years ago and I wanted to make my own wedding dress. I had the skill and the desire, but I did not have the time. So, I ended up buying a wonderful dress and just did the alterations myself. I compromised-I got a beautiful dress and saved money by altering it myself.

For some, the year starts in the Spring. Everything starts coming together and life becomes much more hectic. We take stock of our surroundings and decide what we want to improve and what requires to be improved. Houses are an expensive investment that need constant maintenance, some of which can only be undertaken in good weather. We put out a flyer recently detailing our methods and company profile.

Your home actually isn’t dirty at all, it’s infested.

Infested with an organism that affects your home’s appearance; it will eat and destroy wood, deteriorate roofing materials and absorb heat. These pests are algae, mold, mildew and bacteria. These pests are costing you money!

Standard pressure washing only attacks these pests at the surface. Though the stain is gone, the roots remain. Our SoftWash System treats the problem like a pest, not a stain! We clean the surface and achieve a 100% kill ratio on these pests.

~The SoftWash System Lasts 4 to 6 Times Longer Than Pressure Washing.

~The SoftWash System Has Safely Cleaned In Excess of 50,000 Roofs.

~ The SoftWash System Achieves a 100% Kill Ratio on Mildew and Bacteria.

~AccuWash Covers Each and Every Employee with Full Workers Comp Insurance.

~AccuWash’s Employees are Trained, Courteous and Uniformed.

Quality is important – we are full time cleaners, not weekend warriors.

Intro

Spring has sprung – and if you don’t already see Daffodils populating everyone’s yard, you will soon! As a busy professional, I am always researching new, time saving gardening tips. Don’t we all want the most we can get with the least amount of actual work? Especially when the benefits are so high – fruits, veggies, good smells and a sense of satisfaction. In roof cleaning, we spend a lot of time making sure that survive a roof treatment, so take it from me – I wouldn’t want my plants to be damaged even with the minimal amount of effort I put into them!

A few criterion for this list:

  • Cheats that are time saving
  • Cash savings.  I believe that a little extra effort is worth saving money.
  • Effectiveness: Tips are all well and good, but they need to actually work.
  • Benefits to my taste buds. I like to cook, so I have an assortment of herbs, veggies and flowers
  • Environmentally Friendly

Top 10 Gardening Tips

  1. Check your State University Home & Garden Information for Planting Dates.
    • Maryland has an extensive list for planting Vegetable Crops in Maryland. It is alphabetical and provides other planting information
  2. Practice Companion Planting: Certain plants, when grown next to one another, attract beneficial bugs and deter pests. This means, you’ll spend less to kill pests and your plants will be healthier. Faster propagation too!
  3. Share Seedlings: Many plants self propagate and a healthy plant will have hardy shoot offs that get culled every spring. There is a good chance you know someone close by that has a garden. If not, introduce yourself to your neighbor. Offer free labor in return for some unwanted seedlings. Bring your own pots, tools and a bag of potting soil. Chances are, you will even get some free gardening knowledge out of this besides making a new friend. My garden is mostly from family and friends.
  4. Use Your Trash: Americans are hard core consumers – we throw a lot of usable things away.  Save cheap containers to use as seedling pots. You can write on them with a marker, poke a few holes in the bottom and viola! You have a plethora of usable pots to use for seedlings and transplants.
  5. Save Good Refuse for Compost: It’s extremely easy to throw some of your refuse into a different container for compost, which will translate into prime soil in a year. See this list for do’s and dont’s for what to put into your compost. I keep a brown paper lunch bag or any other brown bag to hold my daily leavings. Then, I can just toss the entire bag into the compost pile since the brown paper is great compost too.   You will get some free soil and save money on garbage bags since your trash will fill up more slowly now.
